Quick answer: Choose a kids weighted blanket by the child's body weight, using the maker's chart. For the Hazli blanket: 5 lb (36 × 48 in) for children around 40 to 60 lb, 7 lb (41 × 60 in) for around 60 to 80 lb, and 10 lb (48 × 72 in) for teens and adults around 90 to 110 lb. The general rule of thumb is about 10% of body weight; between two sizes, pick the lighter one.
Safety first: not for babies or toddlers. Never use a weighted blanket with an infant or toddler. It is only for children who can push it off on their own, without help. Keep it from the shoulders down, never over the face or head.
Two easy mistakes are buying by age and buying the blanket to fit the bed. This page is the chart to have open while ordering, with the borderline cases spelled out. If you are still deciding whether a weighted blanket is right for your child at all, start with our weighted blanket for kids buying guide and come back here for the numbers.

How to use the 10% rule of thumb
The figure you see repeated online is that a weighted blanket should be roughly 10% of the user's body weight. It is a general rule of thumb that gives a blanket heavy enough to notice and light enough to move, not a medical standard, and it is not a reason to go outside the product's own guidance. Use it to sanity-check the chart: a 50 lb child lands on 5 lb, a 70 lb child on 7 lb, a 100 lb teen on 10 lb.
Tip: if your child is right on a boundary, round down to the lighter blanket.
What if my child is between sizes?
Go lighter. This is the product's own advice and it is ours too. A blanket that is slightly light still gives the feeling. A blanket that is slightly heavy is one the child kicks off at 2 a.m., and at the extreme is one they struggle to move, which is a safety problem. If a child is growing fast and you are tempted to buy the next size "to grow into," wait and buy the right size now.
What about a tall, light child?
This is the trickiest case. Say a 58 lb child who is tall for their age: by weight they belong on the 5 lb, but at 36 × 48 in the blanket may stop above the ankles. Feet poking out is normal and not a problem, because a weighted blanket is meant to cover the torso and legs, so we would stay with the 5 lb until they reach the 7 lb range. What we would not do is pick a heavier blanket for length alone; the weight is what matters.
Why it is smaller than a bed
Parents sometimes ask for a twin-size weighted blanket for a 50 lb child. Spreading 5 lb over a twin mattress would make the weight so thin the child would barely feel it, and whatever hangs over the mattress edge pulls the rest to the floor. Weighted blankets are body blankets by design, with nothing over the sides. Put your normal comforter over or under it if the bed needs to look made.

Safety rules that go with the chart
A weight chart only works if the rest of the rules are followed.
- Not for babies or toddlers. The lightest Hazli size is intended for children of roughly 40 lb and up.
- The child must be able to remove the blanket on their own, lying down and sitting up. Test it the first night.
- Supervise first uses until you have seen how your child handles it.
- Body only, never over the face or head.
- Follow the maker's weight guidance; never size up past it.
- If your child has health or developmental concerns, or any breathing or mobility issue, check with a pediatrician or therapist before use.
Can a small adult use the 10 lb?
Yes; the product guidance for the 10 lb is teens and adults around 90 to 110 lb. Above that range, a kids' blanket is not the right product.
Which Hazli size to order
Find your child's weight on the chart, round down if they are on a line, and then let them pick a color from what that size offers. Every size has the same build: micro glass beads sealed in small stitched pockets so the weight stays even, a removable minky-dot cover held on by eight ties and a full-length zip, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and CPSIA certified materials, and the PTPA Winner's Seal. Only the cover is machine washable (cold, gentle, low tumble); the inner blanket is spot clean only.
